I was born and raised in Meridian Mississippi, to Willie and Ada (Harris) Jones. One of four siblings. One sister and two brothers. I attended the Meridian Public schools and graduated from High School May 1968. Shortly after graduation, I joined the US Navy and proudly served my country from April 1969 until January 1973.
I returned home and married my high school ‘sweetheart’, Frances Gail McAlpine on December 23,1969 before finishing my tour in the Navy. Today we have two wonderful children and three fabulous grandsons. I joined Wesley Chapel UMC and served in many areas of ministry before settling on the music ministry. I became a self-taught pianist and served as musician for several churches in the Meridian District.
I also served as Lay Speaker, and Certified Lay Speaker (approx..6 years). The Holy Spirit began to urge me to pursue being a Certified Lay Minister, and I did, becoming the first in the Meridian District to do so.
But the Spirit was not satisfied with what He had placed in my hand to do, as the urges led me to go further and to enter the Candidacy program for ordained ministry. After making ample progress in the candidacy process, Meridian D.S. Billy Owens offered me my first assignment. I served as Part-Time Local pastor on the Elizabeth/ Pleasant Grove UMC Charge in Lauderdale and Toomsuba from July 2012 until July 2016 when I was promoted to Full-time Local Pastor of Pilgrim Hill UMC of Meridian.
My goal is to continue to serve God with my whole heart any way I can. My career goal is to become an Associate Member of the Mississippi Annual Conference after completion of the required Course of Study for Local Pastors. Pray for my continued success.
